Tree felling to make new fence posts

Got into a bit of a pickle with this one.....

Cut a notch, cut almost thru on the other side, gave it a push.....

And it didn't come down, it just shifted sideways.

Here it is, standing on the left, not far from its stump.

Quite an achievement, huh, to balance a 40ft tree on its end?

Maybe I shouldn't have chosen such a straight tree? Kinky fence posts do have an element of charm to them, after all :-)

Actually, I think i had some help holding it up from the neighboring trees....

It  became the slowest tree felling in history.

Here it is, part way down. A rope was tied to the top to pull it down, another tree was cut down to free it's path and levers used to shift the base. Eventually we won but where was gravity today?

If anyone has hints on how to avoid this in the future, please share them.

Time for some chilling, after all that hard work.
