Last week neeps. This week beets.

Not so big as the neeps. But I'm still very happy to have got anything at all. And as I'll be eating these alone, small portion sizes work out just fine.

And theres plenty more. This week has seen, going into the freezer:
a pound of peas
A pound of black currants
A pound of white currants
Just under a pound of red currants (we ate some)

I've a whole fleet of cucumber submarines parked on top of the wood pile and the marrows are doing their best to catch up. Some of the marrows can go in the freezer as ratatouille, but what do you do with excess cucumber. I need some chickens, pigs or goats.

Tomatoes still haven't gone red. Any ideas? I'm removing a few leaves to see if a bit of sun helps.
And the watermelon keeps flowering but no fruit yet. Someone is eating the flowers, I think.

Oh, and remember that strawberry pipe? It's still giving me strawberries, pretty much daily. The plants in the ground have stopped, but these keep on going. And so handy on the fence by the garden gate.

All in all, very satisfying.

Pippa's post and watermelon update 2

Hi all, Pippa here. Wuwu suggested I told you about our outing, seeing as she couldn't come.

It's been very very hot this last week and we've been holidaying with family members at the farm, so we haven't been going for walks.

But the guests have gone and this morning it rained. With the rain came cooler, fresher air, so mum took us for a walk.

It was a new place. Another church on a hill. Humans seem to like the views.

And Allie had a break through with balancing large loads:

Hurrah. I won't have to fetch logs for the fire anymore, because the brown one can do it from now on.
Occasionally it is worth having a younger sister.

And for those on watermelon watch - another centimeter today, so it's now 4.5cm

Pippa.

Chanterelle or false chanterelle?

That is the question

Our neighbour picks and eats similar looking mushrooms from the same location so most of the evidence suggests edible but is it worth a stomach ache?

Mega weather

Coming home from work on Friday we drove through a rainstorm with the biggest raindrops you have ever seen - great big dollops of rain hitting the windscreen. And we wondered how such big raindrops could exist.

The next day we found out.
It was the tail end of a very destructive hail storm.
We'd heard tales of hail stones the size of golf balls, and here they were:

Črnomelj is 50km from us.

Glad that our car escaped that.

More produce

Neeps
Not bad for a first attempt

This one is very respectable. 8 times the size of the others. It had four times the space. I didnt thin the plants as much as i should have because I hate killing perfectly health plants. But this clearly shows that the advice I ignored was good advice!

The cucumbers are out of control. We're getting two or three every day.
And the first potatoes are very exciting. This little pile came from just two plants, so it's looking good for the summer.

Is this beginner's luck?
